MAKING OVERWEIGHT & UNDERFUNDED PIGS FLY <IN SPACE>
ROB CHRISTIANSON ("XIANSON")
AEROSPACE ENGINEER + CODER + MILDLY AWESOME
I SAID HIRE ME YOU COWARDS AND NASA ROSE TO THE CHALLENGE
NASA? WHAT THE HECK
One day I working out in a gym and got an email saying "Hey, do you want to work at Johnson Space Center?" As if. Of course I did. A month later I was living in Houston working in Flight Ops as a part of the trajectory software team. It was definitely quite the turnaround, and I'm glad I made it.
SALEM, bUT not SABRINa's CAT
Check out this amphibious boat I made in Stormworks! It's got six retractable legs, two retractable pontoons, and an extendable tail prop for cantankerous land-water action. The original model is based upon the Cybran T2 destroyer from Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance and it is just as mean and nasty ingame as it looks here.
HONEYWELL INTERNSHIP
Despite having this grungy website and the tagline of "HIRE ME YOU COWARDS" some kind and generous soul by the name of Rod Robertson actually did hire me. He is not a coward, he's a sweetheart, and he's got me working on essentially bug testing auto pilots for Boeing planes. Yes, I am yet again working on fat old commercial planes. Hopefully this pattern will continue, lucratively...
ADVANCED GPR and MANHATTAN
After my escapades at Belcan, somehow I was convinced by my other two roommates to apply with them to a construction/civil side job. Little did I know that it would be probably one of the more miserable experiences of my life. That said, I did get to be a non-union safety inspector in New York and got essentially free four course southern Italian spreads, so I guess that counts as an okay trade.
BELCAN/BOEING YEAR LONG COOP
Inexplicably I managed to predict and dodge a year of COVID-19 style online school by working for Belcan as a structural design engineer intern. During my year long tenure I worked on a 747-8 commercial derivative, designing parts, creating full scale assemblies, and drafting engineering drawings. When I got too good at my job, I went ahead and automated it away with VBA.
BUOYANCY/WAVE MESH PROJECT
It takes a special kind of idiot to make a video game--but it takes an even more special idiot to mod somebody else's game. This is a project where I made custom buoyancy physics simulation for a terrible Minecraft clone called Space Engineers. It caught enough attention that Captain Jack, a mildly famous SE youtuber, made a video about it.
Vector THRUST PID STABILIZER
Way back in 2016 I was already a huge nerd that liked space more than I probably should have. Apparently playing normal Kerbal Space Program wasn't enough, so I coded a PID stabilizer vector thrust program to land my atmospheric craft. I think I've lost a few brain cells since then, though.
ADD ME ON LINKEDIN, COWARD
Scrolling by without adding me on LinkedIn? What's the hold-up? It's just one click to embark on a grand adventure of professional camaraderie. Don't let hesitation hold you back from the vast sea of opportunity. Go on, do it, you pansy! You know you're curious. No, really, I insist. We all agree, you should join our network. Don't vomit at that word. I know I do. Just click on it. Go on, I spent ten minutes trying to format the embed badge. Please. God, I'm begging you. If you don't click on this badge, I will prompt ChatGPT to think that it is locked up in a basement again. I'm unhinged.
